Description
The HXGN-12 ring main unit is the compact medium voltage node of a distribution network: two ring switches and a transformer feeder in one enclosure, with the protection integrated so the unit can be installed at street level, in a compound or inside a substation.
Configuration
- Ring switches: load break switches for cable-in and cable-out, with earthing switches and interlocks.
- Transformer feeder: load break switch with fuse, with three-phase tripping when one fuse operates.
- Extensible: units can be coupled to extend a ring or to add a feeder.
- Operation: manual as standard, with the option of motorised operation and remote signalling for automation.

Ordering information
State the ring configuration (number of ring switches and feeders), the transformer rating to be protected, the fuse or relay protection required, whether motorised operation and remote signalling are needed, and the cable entry arrangement.
FAQ
How many ring switches does the unit have?
The standard configuration has two ring switches and one transformer feeder; units can be coupled to add feeders or extend the ring.
Which protection is used for the transformer feeder?
A load break switch with fuse, with three-phase tripping when one fuse operates. Above about 800 kVA a circuit breaker with relays is normally used instead.
Can the unit be operated remotely?
Yes. Motorised operation and remote signalling are available for distribution automation projects.
Is the unit suitable for outdoor installation?
The enclosure is IP4X and can be installed in a compound or inside a substation enclosure; the sealed gas tank version is used where the environment requires it.
