Why Choose CWNE Surge Protective Devices

CWNE produces surge protective devices under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems with CCC-certified products. The WN-MD is manufactured to GB18802.1 / IEC61643-1 and protects low-voltage distribution from lightning and transient overvoltages.

Surge Protective Device FAQ

What does a surge protective device protect?

It diverts surge energy from lightning or switching events away from equipment, protecting circuits and connected devices from transient overvoltages.

Where should an SPD be installed?

Type 1 devices are installed at the main incoming board; further devices can protect sub-distribution boards and sensitive equipment.

What protection modes does the WN-MD provide?

The WN-MD provides both common-mode (line to earth) and differential-mode (line to line) protection.

How to Choose a Surge Protective Device

Choose a surge protective device by its class or type, the system type and the location in the installation, since these determine the surge level the device must handle.

Type 1 or Type 2

Type 1 (Class B) devices are installed at the main incoming board and are tested to handle partial direct lightning currents. Type 2 devices are installed downstream to limit residual overvoltages. The WN-MD is a Class B (Type 1) SPD.

Match the system type

Confirm whether the supply is IT, TT, TN-C, TN-S or TN-C-S, as this affects the connection and protection mode required. The WN-MD supports IT, TT, TN-C, TN-S and TN-C-S.

Confirm the location and exposure

  • Main incoming board or downstream distribution board.
  • Level of lightning exposure of the site and the equipment being protected.

What to send for a quotation

Provide the system type, the location in the installation, the level of lightning exposure and quantity.
