Description
Where an assembly has a large number of small outgoing ways, modular distribution blocks are faster and more compact than individual cable terminals. The blocks clip onto the busbar run, contact the bar with a defined pressure and provide outgoing terminals for single-phase and three-phase circuits.
What the blocks are used for
- Dense final distribution: many single-phase ways from one busbar run in floor and sub-distribution boards.
- Device carriers: modular circuit breakers and residual current devices mounted directly on the busbar run.
- Phase selection: each block takes its phase from the bar position, so the phase rotation is set by the block, not by wiring.
- Extension and retrofit: ways can be added later without dismantling the busbar.
Technical data
| Parameter | Range / value |
|---|---|
| Mounting | Clip-on to the busbar system; no drilling or tapping of the bar |
| Configurations | Single-phase and three-phase tap-off blocks, device carriers for modular devices |
| Connection | Screw terminals for copper conductors, sizes per block type |
| Contact | Defined contact pressure, torque stated per terminal |
| Design standard | IEC 61439-1 / -2 for the assembly, IEC 60947 for the devices |
Selection notes
- Count the outgoing ways per phase first, then choose the block width — the number of blocks per metre follows from the busbar pitch.
- Keep the rated current of the block above the sum of the outgoing ways it feeds.
- Use device carriers where the protective devices must sit on the busbar, and tap-off blocks where cables leave directly.
Ordering information
Send the number of outgoing ways per phase, the outgoing cable sizes, the device type to be mounted and the busbar profile. Blocks are quoted together with the busbar schedule.
FAQ
Do the blocks require drilling the busbar?
No. The blocks clip onto the busbar run, so the bar is not drilled or tapped and the tinned surface stays intact.
Can the blocks be added after the assembly is built?
Yes. Additional blocks can be clipped on later, which is useful when a board has to be extended.
How is the phase selected?
The phase is set by the position of the block on the busbar run, so the phase rotation is defined mechanically rather than by wiring.
Are device carriers available for modular circuit breakers?
Yes. Device carriers accept modular devices such as miniature circuit breakers and residual current devices and mount them directly on the busbar.
