Description
Where the assembly depth or width does not allow a conventional flat bar run, multi-layer busbars stack the copper into a compact package. The published current ratings run from 1053 A for a 400 mm² package to 2110 A for 1000 mm².
Current ratings
| Cross-section | Rated current |
|---|---|
| 400 mm² | 1053 A |
| 500 mm² | 1244 A |
| 630 mm² | 1481 A |
| 800 mm² | 1777 A |
| 1000 mm² | 2110 A |
Ratings apply to the tested installation conditions. Where the ambient temperature inside the enclosure, the number of stacked bars or the installation position differ, the values must be corrected.
Where multi-layer bars are used
- Compact main busbars: high current in a limited cross-section, typically in modular assemblies.
- Vertical runs: stacked bars take less depth than parallel flat bars of the same rating.
- Connection to withdrawable modules: the stack provides a defined contact plane for the tap-off.
Construction
The package is built from electrolytic copper bars with insulated spacers between the layers, clamped at defined intervals, and terminated with connection terminals at the ends and at the tap-off points. The stack is assembled in the workshop to the length required, so the contact surfaces are prepared and tightened under controlled conditions rather than on site.
Selection notes
- Choose the cross-section from the design current after the diversity factor and the ambient correction.
- Check the stack height against the free space in the assembly before fixing the layout.
- Order the stack to length with the tap-off positions marked, rather than drilling on site.
Ordering information
Send the design current, stack length, number of layers, tap-off positions and the terminals required at each end.
FAQ
What current can a multi-layer busbar carry?
From 1053 A for a 400 mm² package to 2110 A for 1000 mm², under the tested installation conditions.
When should I choose multi-layer bars instead of flat bars?
When the required current does not fit into the available depth or width using flat bars, or when a compact vertical run is needed.
Are the bars supplied cut to length?
Yes. The stack is assembled to the required length with the tap-off positions marked, so no drilling is needed on site.
Do the current ratings include derating?
No. The published values apply to the tested conditions; ambient temperature, installation position and the number of stacked bars must be corrected for the actual installation.
